CHESTNUT APPEAL FOR PROSTATE CANCER PLYMOUTH DEVON CORNWALL SOUTH WEST UK

Peters Marathon on the 25th April 2010

17th March 2010

I got into running in a strange way, i have from school always played sport, like basketball, squash, tennis, badmington, walking the dogs etc. I always hated running as a boring monotinous hobby, then in 2004 some some friends told me they were going to france with the LOOE LISKEARD HASH HOUSE HARRIERS, being short of numbers for the bus thye asked if my wife pam and I if we would like to go along, we said yes.

During the trip we got a bit badgered to go to their club running nights and needless to say we got hooked eventually, now at aged 61 I absolutely adore running, and I run with the club and also frequently run with my dogs.

Regretfully my brother Michael developed prostate cancer about 3 years ago and it spread to his bones, he received really good treatment in Derriford hospital which included the help of The Chestnut ward, however, sadly my brother lost his fight on December the 29th last year, he died very quickly and me and all my family were totally devastated. I still feel very emotional about it all. As a family we were also very concerned about how our 90 year old mother would cope with the loss of her son, she and Michaels wife Sylvia have both rallied around and are coping.

I was already selected by ballot to run the london marathon and decided that in memory of my brother, Michael, I would run the London Marthon for The Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer to help purchase the some specialised lights for the operating theatre.
