CHESTNUT APPEAL FOR PROSTATE CANCER PLYMOUTH DEVON CORNWALL SOUTH WEST UK

Devon County Show success

25th May 2010

I'm so very pleased, not only because our stand at The Devon County Show looked fantastic...(thank you to Pyramid who kitted it out for free); but we collected £9,217.75 for prostate cancer care in Devon & Cornwall. It also seems that this total might be a Devon County Show record.

I'd been so worried and was having such sleepless nights, with things like tea urns waking me up, or have we got enough cheese!!

You see the charity is only made up of two full time staff, a board of trustees and a few volunteers dotted around the region. I wasn't sure if we could pull off such a high-profile gig like the Devon County Show, and look professional at the same time, but we did....and we did it in style. Not only did we have our very own Michelin star chef, but we had a classic car, face painting, an army of volunteers....30 a day in fact, card making and attendance at several suppers.

We handed out over three thousand prostate cancer information leaflets....made 170 free cream teas for our supporters and sold over two and a half thousand raffle tickets. The North & East Devon prostate support group handed us a very generous £2000.00 towards our target and we pulled out all the stops to make this a success. I'm so very proud of my awesome team who helped me pull all of this together.
