Situated in Plymouth Sound, this 6.5 acre Island has been home to a military fortification since the time of the Tudors. Todays the Island is in private hands and although planning permission has been granted for a Hotel Complex the Island is now up for sale.
Now in its fourth year the Chestnut Appeal’s Drakes Island swim will take place on Sunday 7th July with a swim time of around 09.30.
Participants will set off from the beach at Firestone Bay with the swim to Drakes Island and back, taking place in the shelter of the Bay.
It’s a great swim for anyone new to an organised Open Water Swim at around 1M in distance, taking around 40-50 minutes to complete. Swimmers of all abilities and ages have taken part in this great swim .
Registration for the 2019 Drakes Island Swim is £30. Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event, but it’s the money you raise that helps Prostate Cancer patients and their families across Devon and Cornwall. So we ask all our swimmers set themselves a Sponsorship target of at least £50.
